Dale H. Hughes, age 81, of Tioga, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. He shared 57 years of marriage with the love of his life, Gail L. (Deats) Hughes, who survives. Born April 11, 1942, in Tioga, PA, he was a son of the late Howard and Lola (Henninger) Hughes.
Dale was primarily occupied as a heavy equipment operator and a truck driver, although, he was considered a “jack of all trades” by family and friends. He was employed by a few companies including Spencer Construction, Austin Construction, Servidone Construction, and Triple Cities Construction. He also spent part of his career overseeing operations at the former Georgia-Pacific lumber mill and delivering coal in his own coal truck. He attended church services at the former First Presbyterian Church of Tioga. Dale held his family above all else and cherished his grandchildren. His other hobbies and interests included camping, woodworking, hunting, fishing, mowing lawns, and watching NASCAR, specifically Mark Martin. Dale and Gail would often sit on their granddaughter’s, Courtney Gail Hughes, memorial bench and quietly observe the night sky together. Dale’s light-hearted and humorous personality will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Gail L. Hughes, of Tioga; children, Brian Dale Hughes (Rita Weigel), of Horseheads, NY, and Brenda Lee Flynn, of Tioga; grandchildren, Tyler (Molly) Wilson, Paige Nicole Hughes, Travis Hugh Flynn (Kelsea Arnold), and Shane Marshand (Erin Outmen); great granddaughters, Brynlee Hughes and Mila Wilson; brothers, Carl (Ellen) Hughes, of Tioga, and Bruce (Peggy) Hughes, of Millerton; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Courtney Gail Hughes, in 2017, and his sister, Carol Fish, in 2022.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dale’s name to the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org/pa.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 5-6 p.m., at Ives Run State Park, South Pavilion, closest to bathrooms and parking lot.
