Dean W. Lewis

January 6, 1933 — April 11, 2023

Tioga, PA

Dean W. Lewis, age 90, a lifelong resident of Tioga, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at his residence. He married the love of his life, Shirley (Collins) Lewis, on June 23, 1956, and shared 66 years of marriage together. Born January 6, 1933, in Wellsboro, he was a son of the late Farrand and Kathryn (Dean) Lewis.

Dean proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, during the Korean War, and continued serving veterans through the Herbert Lee Webster American Legion Post 235 and volunteering with Wreaths Across America every year. He was also a member of the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Tioga, Coudersport Consistory, Tioga Masonic Lodge #373, Elkland Moose Lodge #746, Arnot Sportsman’s Club, and a former member of the Tioga Lions Club. Dean was employed as a Platinum Smith with Corning Incorporated for 44 years, retiring from that position in 1994. He took great pride in his local community, frequently mowing lawns and plowing or blowing snow for several neighbors, friends and family. He also enjoyed playing cards with his wife, maintaining his garden, taking camping trips, telling stories to anyone who would listen, tending to his fur babies, and reading. Dean was a member of the daily coffee club that would often meet at Rosie’s Diner in Tioga. Out of all his hobbies, interests and accomplishments, his absolute favorite thing to do was spend time with his family, religiously attending as many of his children’s, grandchildren’s, and great grandchildren’s sporting events as possible.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Shirley C. Lewis, of Tioga; children, Jeffrey L. (Valarie) Lewis, of San Antonio, TX, and Cindy S. (Don) Kendrick, of Millerton; grandchildren, Josh (Danielle) Kendrick, of Tioga, Ryan Lewis, of San Antonio, TX, Nicole Kendrick, of Tioga, and Brittney (Johnny) Chessher, of San Antonio, TX; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Joslyn, Carter, Raelynn, Connor, Kayleigh, Leo and Luke; sisters, Phyllis Hilfiger, of Mosherville, and Norma Heck, of Tioga; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Dean was preceded in death by his eldest son, Steven Lewis, in 1966 and five of his siblings.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dean’s name to the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Tioga, 9 S. Main St., Tioga, PA 16946.
