Edith R. Youmans

Edith R. Youmans, age 85, of Wellsboro, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024, with family by her side at Broad Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center in Wellsboro. Born September 10, 1938, in Blossburg, she was a daughter of the late Raymond A. and Helen J. (Higley) Youmans.

Upon meeting Edith, one would have a hard time believing the physical and emotional mountains she had overcome every single day of her life, having been diagnosed with Cerebral-Palsy at birth. Mostly due to her contagious, vibrant, and loving personality, creating an almost instantaneous bond with those blessed enough to meet her. Several of those family-like bonds were created through her employment at Partners in Progress and through her cherished family, friends, caretakers and staff at Broad Acres. There was seemingly no mountain too high or obstacle too large to for Edith’s independent and strong-willed nature, even driving a car, in which her father installed controls for her use. She also had a competitive side to her, especially when it came to BINGO, which she religiously attended weekly at Holy Child Catholic Church and the Mansfield Fire Hall. Not only did Edith not let her physical impairments limit her, but she embraced the crutches and has disciplined several shins and knees with them over the years. 

Left to cherish her memory are her two brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Lula Youmans, of Muncy, PA, and Harold and Nancy Youmans, of Waco, TX; sister-in-law, Donna Youmans, of Mansfield, PA; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and many dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her siblings, Willliam Youmans, Sara Prince, and Ellie House, and her niece, Monica Rae House.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, June 22, 2024, from 2-3 p.m., at Wilston-Currie Funeral Home, 130 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA 16933. Edith’s funeral service will immediately follow her viewing at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Thomas Harmic officiating.
