Mary Ellen Barr

Mary Ellen (Strange) Barr, age 94, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025, with family by her side, at the Green Home in Wellsboro. She married the late John D. Barr on March 20, 1953, sharing 68 wonderful years of marriage together, prior to John’s passing in 2021. Born March 10, 1931, in Rutland Township, she was the daughter of the late Maxwell & Myrtle (McKay) Strange.

Mary Ellen was a lifelong member of the Mainesburg United Methodist Church, having served as Treasurer and Secretary for several years. Her and John loved traveling, both nationally and internationally, with destinations including Alaska, France, Germany and England. She also enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards, reading, and maintaining a beautiful garden. In her later years, she enjoyed crocheting, playing BINGO, and listening to audio books. Mary Ellen’s nurturing and kind-hearted personality will be missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Paula Cummings, of Mansfield, Lou Ann (Paul) Hart, of Wellsboro, Jack (Mary) Barr, of Liberty, Daniel (Elizabeth) Barr, of Troy, Peter (Gina) Barr, of Las Vegas, Jeffrey (Julie) Barr, of Mansfield, and Timothy (Kilsun) Barr, of Lawton, OK; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Partridge, Dottie Barr and Sandra Barr; brother-in-law, Charles Martz; several nieces & nephews; and many dear friends.

In addition to her parents and late husband, John, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her son, Craig Barr, and her brother, Phil Strange.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Mary Ellen’s name to either the Mainesburg United Methodist Church, 100 Smith Park Rd, Mainesburg, PA 16932, or the Green Home Activities Fund, 37 Central Ave, Wellsboro, PA 16901.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 10-11 a.m., at the Mainesburg United Methodist Church, 100 Smith Park Rd, Mainesburg, PA 16932. Mary Ellen’s memorial service will immediately follow the calling hour at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Bill Baker officiating. She will be laid to rest with her husband in the Mainesburg Cemetery, Mainesburg, PA, www.wilstoncurriefh.com.
