Peter George Walushka

July 30, 1926 — November 9, 2024

Millerton

Peter George Walushka, age 98, of Millerton, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, November 9, 2024, in the comfort of his own home. His late wife, and mother to all his children, June Walushka, preceded him in death in 1989. Born July 30, 1926, in Flinton, PA, he was a son of the late George M. & Mary E. (Sheposh) Walushka.

Peter proudly served in the United States Army and was employed for nearly 40 years with Corning Glass Works, retiring in 1988. He was a devout Christian, as a current member of the Millerton Wesleyan Church, and prior Elder & Trustee of the Valley Alliance Church in Wellsboro for several years. Peter also served as a volunteer with the Roving Volunteer’s in Christ’s Service, where he was able assist in places like Mexico and Florida. Woodworking was one his greatest passions in life and he created several beautiful pieces with his keen eye for detail. Not only did he assist in the construction of the Valley Alliance Church, but he also built a beautiful large Cross that hangs at the Millerton Wesleyan Church. These are only a couple of the numerous projects including cutting boards, bird houses, furniture, etc., that Peter gifted to those he cared for. He will be dearly missed by family & friends, described as someone who was never idle, always hard-working, and never passed up an opportunity to give a speech.

Left to cherish his memory are his six children, Pauline (Ron) Hoover, of Middlebury Center, Jo Ann (Robert) Cole, of Hammondsport, NY, Karen (Tom) VanOrder, of Farmington, NY, Keith (Cindy) Walushka, of Millerton, Barbara Blackwell (Jim Teeter), of Wellsboro, and Thomas (Michelle) Walushka, of Millerton; 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy O’Connor, of Athens; several nieces & nephews; and her close friend, Kathy Leff. The family would also like to give a special thanks to Guthrie Hospice for their compassionate care, specifically Tony, Sierra, Mandy & Kate.

In addition to his parents and late wife, June, Peter was preceded in death by six siblings, Stella, Helen, Mary Jane, James, and John.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Peter’s name to the Millerton Wesleyan Church, 5174 Main St, Millerton, PA 16936.
